PRESS RELEASE
The Republic of Yemen had to sever its diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran on 2nd October, 2015 due to the continuous funding and arming to the Houthi Militias in Yemen. It had requested the Government of Iran to respect and abide by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961, Article 45, in protecting its diplomatic mission in Tehran, archives, funds and properties.
In clear violation to the UN Convention, Vienna Convention and the UN Security Council resolution 2216, the Government of Iran received the credentials of the Houthis' representative on 19th of November, 2019 putting him in charge of the Yemen diplomatic mission.
This measure by the Islamic Republic of Iran is a serious and dangerous precedent and we call upon the international community to take responsibility in maintaining and protecting international conventions and condemn the Iranian violation on our diplomatic mission in Tehran.
This action shows the Iranian Government irresponsibility to adhering to international norms and the Republic of Yemen has the right to take all legal measures in dealing with this matter
