Yemen participates in the 29th meeting of the International Maritime Organization in London.

Yemen participated in meetings of the 29th International Maritime Organization (IMO) Along with delegations of 171 states and three associate members and a number of governmental and non-governmental international organizations, which was organized in London and will run until the 2nd of December.

Yemen Delegation in the work session was headed by our ambassador to the United Kingdom Dr. Yasin Said Noman Accompanied by the third secretary Ahlam AL-Bashiri.

 

Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu outline some of the Organization's major achievements, He singled out the low rate of piracy and armed robbery against ships off the Somali coast and the Indian Ocean.

Elections of members of the Executive Council consisting of 40 countries is Scheduled to take place during the meeting; the Assembly will consider issues related to its strategic and action plans, it will also Adopt a number of resolutions submitted by the various Bodies that held regular meetings during the past two years, and will adopt the budget for the years 2016-2017, and approve the appointment of the Organization’s new Secretary-General.

The International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution by ships.

 

The Djibouti Code of Conduct Signed by 20 countries concerning the Repression of Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden is a Model of regional cooperation to meet the challenges of piracy and to ensure the security and safety of the marine environment.
